Narrative

Alcorn State University consistently describes itself to the various accrediting agencies using the same mission and demographics. All changes in accreditation status have been reported to SACSCOC.

In addition to its institutional accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), Alcorn State University has several degree programs that are accredited by agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Academic units seek affirmation from accrediting agencies to validate the quality of education programs in their disciplines. Each degree program follows established standards within their schools to foster a commitment to continued excellence. This validation process begins with programs completing a self-study based on standards established by the accrediting body to strengthen the quality of processes and academic programs. In this self-assessment, an academic program might determine the need to make a program change for quality assurance. Consequently, substantive changes are reported to the accrediting body to apprise them of any major modifications. One program at Alcorn, Nutrition and Dietetics, has voluntarily requested to close its program to redesign and restructure academic and practicum components. The accrediting agency, Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), has approved the voluntary closure, with guidance for maintaining accreditation until the program is officially closed and proper notifications to students. Nutrition and Dietetics at Alcorn State University will remain accredited until August 31, 2017.

Each school at Alcorn State University offers programs that are professionally accredited. These accreditations are listed in the University Catalog. There are eight accrediting agencies which accredit programs at Alcorn State University:
